KQED Education Internship

Terms Available:

Winter Term: September-December
Spring Term: January-April
Summer Term: May-August

KQED Education engages educators in schools, colleges, universities, and informal learning environments and supports their utilization of PBS and KQED content as a learning tool by:

• Producing high-quality digital learning tools-Video and audio clips, interactives, and lesson plans-aligned to state and national content standards
• Distributing free resources via kqed.org and other platforms including iTunesU and PBS LearningMedia
• Training educators to use educational media and digital media tools in their learning environment through in-depth professional development and online training resources

Internship Summary:

KQED Education develops educational resources for teachers, including standards-based Educator Guides for Web content. The Education team also provides professional development for teachers and informal educators through workshops, conferences and local trainings

Successful interns will have the opportunity to:

• Develop new curricular resources for the KQED Education website
• Publish blog posts for the KQED Education blog
• Participate in the planning of and help lead workshops for Bay Area educators
• Learn about how KQED Education content is collaboratively produced

Internship Duties:

Depending on the internship term, the KQED Education Intern may assist with one or more of the following:

• Researching and reviewing relevant resources for Educator Guides
• Writing and publishing Educator Guides
• Writing content for the KQED Education website (i.e. blog posts) or monthly newsletter
• Making recommendations for updates to the education web pages
• Providing support for KQED Education events and workshops
• Supporting and co-facilitating trainings for educators on making media and using multimedia with students
• Developing a media-making toolkit for educators
• Collecting and reporting KQED Education website and iTunesU metrics
• Promoting KQED Education materials at community and partner events

Qualifications:

• Working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree education and/or film/media studies; or, currently enrolled in a teacher credentialing program
• Education experience
• Knowledge of Bay Area education organizations and issues
• Strong organizational and research skills
• Ability to work independently on tight deadlines and to balance multiple projects
• Commitment to education and increasing access to educational resources to the general public
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Multimedia and Web experience a plus

• To qualify for this internship, you must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution and be able to earn course credit at the college level (no exceptions). When sending your resume and cover letter, please be certain to reference your the internship(s) of interest, ability to receive course credit as a college student, and available term within the body of the cover letter.
• All internships are unpaid.
• Once a college student has been accepted for the internship, the individual will be required to provide "Proof of Credit" or a signed verification form from a counselor, major department head, or professor before beginning the KQED internship program.
