Communications Internship
Division: Marketing
Department: Communications
Terms Available:
Winter Term: September–December
Spring Term: January–April
Summer Term: May–August
Please apply two months prior to start of term.

Internship Summary:
The Communications Department includes public relations, advertising, government affairs and community relations. The department creates and distributes all promotional materials and program-based advertising for NCPB. Communications Interns extend the efforts of the department by assisting with day-to-day requests and ongoing projects within the department.

Internship Duties:
go Researches print and broadcast media press contacts for specific program pitching.
go Pitches KQED content to online media and researches future contacts.
go Maintains KQED online presence through new media: MySpace, Facebook, etc.
go Writes and sends monthly highlights targeting local press.
go Writes and sends Heritage Month press releases.
go Assists with writing letters to elected officials regarding public broadcasting legislation.
go Assists with outreach to elected officials and community groups for Heritage Month Celebrations.
go

Attends community events representing KQED.

go Assists with organizing outreach booths at community fairs and festivals..
go Assists with ad placements and ad reports.
go Prepares press clippings, maintains clipping database, and assists with press reports.
go Assists with press kit assembly and press mailings.
Internship Qualifications:
go Interest and / or experience in public relations, marketing, government relations, community relations and / or communications.
go Strong research skills.
go Self starter.
go Ability to multitask.
go Computer skills essential, including mail merge, database and spreadsheet application, and word processing skills.
go Excellent oral and written communication skills.
go Ability to take direction and to work independently.
