Internship Summary:
QUEST is a new local KQED cross-platform science, environment and nature project, launched in February 2007. The series explores exciting Bay Area developments in science, technology and the environment, generating exclusive content through each of its media platforms. The first season of QUEST features 40 TV stories, shot in High-Definition, approximately 50 radio segments, a comprehensive series of educator resources, and a robust web site with original, interactive content. KQED QUEST, in partnership with 12 Bay Area science, environment and nature organizations, works to introduce our audiences to discoveries in their own backyards through an innovative multi-platform collaboration. QUEST is seeking a Public Relations and Community Outreach Intern to assist the Media Publicist and Community Outreach Coordinator. The intern will be involved in two aspects of QUEST, both the media outreach and promotion of QUEST, and the relationship with QUEST's 12 Bay Area partners. Internships are generally 16 hours per week.
Internship Duties:
- Supports publicity and outreach activities for QUEST including sending out press kits and event planning assistance.
- Researches Bay Area science, nature and environment media and community organizations.
- Assists with QUEST Partner meetings and updating Partner contacts in Outreach Database.
- Assists in other promotional efforts for QUEST.
Internship Qualifications:
- Communication, Journalism Majors with knowledge and experience of Bay Area science organizations, scientists, and issues preferred.
- Ability to work independently on tight deadlines and to balance multiple projects.
- Interest in increasing the public's awareness of science, nature and environmental issues in the Bay Area.
- Excellent organizational and research skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience using Word, Excel, and FileMaker Pro, and conducting research online.

To qualify for this internship, you must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited academic institution and be able to earn course credit at the college level (no exceptions). When sending your resume and cover letter, please be certain to reference your the internship(s) of interest, ability to receive course credit as a college student, and available term within the body of the cover letter.
All internships are unpaid.
Once a college student has been accepted for the internship, the individual will be required to provide "Proof of Credit" or a signed verification form from a counselor, major department head, or professor before beginning the KQED internship program.
