Innovation in a Recession

Download audio (MP3)

Can a company get more innovative ideas or solutions from outsiders than from its own employees? Netflix just paid $1 million, in a contest open to anyone, to a group of outside researchers for software to improve its movie recommendation system. We discuss how some companies are turning to new technology and techniques to foster innovation in a down economy.

Host: Dave Iverson

Guests:

  • David Ritter, chief technology officer for Innocentive Inc.
  • Farhad Manjoo, technology columnist for Slate.com
  • Robert Sutton, professor of organizational behavior, management science and engineering at the Stanford Business School and author of "The No Asshole Rule"
