Bay Bridge Closure

Download audio (MP3)

The countdown is on. At 8:00 on Thursday evening, the Bay Bridge will close for construction. Caltrans will keep the bridge closed until 5:00 Tuesday morning. Retrofit work closed the bridge on Labor Day weekends in 2006 and 2007, but this time around the closure will affect the Friday commute. We take a look at alternative transportation options, as well as the massive engineering feat crews are tackling.

Host: Scott Shafer

Guests:

  • Bart Ney, spokesperson for Caltrans
  • Julie Hilton, field engineer and surveyor with MCM Construction
  • Mary Currie, public affairs director for the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District
  • Randy Rentschler, director of legislation and public affairs for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission
