Electronic Textbooks

Download audio (MP3)

Last week, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger released the names of 10 digital math and science textbooks that meet state academic standards. In the first half hour, we talk to California Secretary of Education Glen Thomas about the state's new Free Digital Textbook Initiative. At 10:30, we look at how college textbooks are moving into the digital age. Will the new format make the increasingly pricey books more affordable while maintaining quality?

Host: Michael Krasny

Guests:

  • Glen Thomas, California secretary of Education (first half hour)
  • Nicole Allen, campaign director for Make Textbooks Affordable (second half hour)
  • Sean Devine, CEO of CourseSmart (second half hour)
