Children and Marital Happiness

Download audio (MP3)

Does having children lead to a happier marriage? Recent research has actually indicated a decrease in marital satisfaction after the birth of a child. But the equation is not that simple, according to a new report by UC Berkeley researchers Philip and Carolyn Cowan. They've found that couples who plan or agree to have a child and work on their relationship often maintain or increase their marital satisfaction. We talk to the Cowans about their study.

Host: Michael Krasny

Guests:

  • Carolyn Cowan, adjunct professor emerita and co-director of the Schoolchildren and their Families Project at UC Berkeley
