Doomed protaganists. Femmes fatales. The city at night. We investigate the enduring popularity of the cinematic genre known as film noir-- and get a preview of San Francisco's annual Noir City film festival, which starts on Friday at the Castro Theater.

  • Eddie Muller, founder and president of the Film Noir Foundation, which sponsors the annual Noir City film festival in SF. His books include: "Dark City: The Lost World of Film Noir" and "Dark City Dames: The Wicked Women of Film Noir."
  • Marsha Hunt, actress and author. Hunt signed with Paramount in 1938 at the age of 17. Her films include "Pride and Prejudice," "Flight Command," and the noir film "Raw Deal."
