Peace Corps Turns 50

Download audio (MP3)

As the Peace Corps celebrates 50 years in service, volunteers look back at what the organization has accomplished -- and what it should aim to do next. Critics say it has lost its way and needs reform while others believe it merits nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. We discuss the future of the Peace Corps.

Host: Dave Iverson

Guests:

  • Bina Contreras, current Peace Corps volunteer in Uganda
  • Christine Russell, current Peace Corps volunteer in Dominican Republic
  • Kevin Quigley, president of the National Peace Corps Association
  • Robert Strauss, management consultant and founding president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Madagascar, and author of the Foreign Policy article, "Think Again: The Peace Corps"
  • Stanley Meisler, author of "When the World Calls: The Inside Story of the Peace Corps and It's Fifty Years," and Los Angeles Times correspondent
