Building Artificial Kidneys

Download audio (MP3)

More than 85,000 people in the United States are on the waiting list for one of the 17,000 kidneys that are donated each year. And roughly 350,000 people whose kidneys have failed rely on regular dialysis. UCSF's Shuvo Roy joins us to discuss bioengineering and a new artificial kidney project at Mission Bay.

Host: Michael Krasny

Guests:

  • Shuvo Roy, associate professor at UCSF and artificial kidney project leader
