KPFA Layoffs

Download audio (MP3)

Supporters of KPFA radio in Berkeley have been protesting recent layoffs at the community station. KPFA's parent network, Pacifica, has cut the equivalent of seven full-time positions, including both hosts and the staff of KPFA's most popular locally produced program, the Morning Show.

Host: Michael Krasny

Guests:

  • Arlene Engelhardt, executive director of the Pacifica Foundation
  • Larry Bensky, former National Affairs correspondent for Pacifica Radio and former host of KPFA's Sunday Salon

Pacifica says the cuts were necessary in a bad economy, but KPFA supporters say killing the program that brings in the most pledge dollars doesn't make any sense.
