The Death and Life of American Journalism

Download audio (MP3)

It's been a tumultuous week in the media business locally and nationally. The owner of the Contra Costa Times, Marin Independent Journal, Oakland Tribune and San Jose Mercury News announced plans to file for bankruptcy. Meanwhile, The New York Times said it would start charging for online content, and liberal broadcast network Air America ceased broadcasting. Authors Robert McChesney and John Nichols join us to talk about these developments and their new book, "The Death and Life of American Journalism."

Host: Dave Iverson

Guests:

  • John Nichols, Washington correspondent for The Nation and co-author of "The Death and Life of American Journalism"
  • Robert McChesney, professor of communication at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and co-author of "The Death and Life of American Journalism"
