Media Salon
On April 14, 2003, KQED deepened the dialogue generated at the Becoming American: The Chinese Experience community screening with particular focus on media images of Chinese Americans. Questions explored included: Who's telling the stories? From whose perspective? How do these images and stories influence perceptions of Chinese Americans both within and outside of the Asian community?

Media salons are a series of free presentations and thoughtful discussions hosted by KQED Education Network.

Reception, Screening and Discussion
On March 21, 2003, KQED Education Network held a reception, screening and discussion of Becoming American: The Chinese Experience at the Chinese Cultural Center in San Francisco. Following the reception, guests viewed a 30-minute film segment and participated in a panel discussion facilitated by Jay Stone Shih, to explore the question, "What does it really mean to become an American?"
