12:30 amThis is Us [#202] California History * Greg Smesstad, 8th generation Californian - Greg Smesstad is a descendent of the Bernal family, one of 30 families who came from Mexico with Spanish Captain Juan Bautista de Anza in 1775. Smesstad has written the book on the de Anza Trail, a National Parks Historic Trail, for the Park Service. In it he documents the history of the first 30 families in California. The Bernal family helped to found San Jose.

But Louisa is horrified at the thought of sending him miles away to school. Tension is mounting between Louisa and Martin. They can't seem to agree on anything. The final straw for Louisa comes when she discovers Martin has set a date for their baby's christening without even consulting her. Louisa decides she has had enough. Red Riding Hood comes by ready to pick up the basket and asks if they tested it to make sure it was strong enough to stand up to the Big Bad Wolf. They agree to test the basket, and Alan holds it up saying, "I got a basket of goodies for you, Grandma." Just then, the Big Bad Wolf pops up next to Alan and eats through the basket. The basket was not strong enough. Elmo thinks that they need to put something harder than twigs around the basket to make it stronger. Rosita suggests reinforcing the basket with dishes. They test it again, but the Big Bad Wolf is able to eat through the dishes! The dishes are hard but fragile. For the next basket, Alan, Rosita, and Elmo decide to reinforce the basket with something even harder than dishes - metal pie plates. The Big Bad Wolf pops in once more to test it out but is unable to eat through the metal pie plates. It passes the test!
