When Mommy and Daddy finally catch on to Caillou's hesitation, they insist he doesn't have to ride a camel, but should at least see a real camel and decide for himself. As Caillou learns about the camel from its trainer, he feels better and finally decides to take that camel ride. Educational Objective: Having the correct information can reduce and even conquer fears. It's Not Too Big For Me!: Caillou is keen to go sledding on the "Big Hill" until he stands at the top of the hill and realizes it really IS BIG. Daddy senses Caillou is afraid to admit he's not ready for the big hill and gives Caillou an out by saying Rosie needs someone to play with on the little hill. Later, when Andre decides to sled down the big hill, but he too is afraid, Caillou helps his friend by asking Andre to sled on the little hill with him. Educational Objective: Recognizing limits and realizing it's okay to be afraid. Caillou's Flying Saucer: Caillou thinks he's seen a flying saucer in his yard just like the one in his comic books and is determined to prove it to his friends! Trying to catch a flying saucer is much harder than he thought and Caillou is disappointed when he eventually discovers it is only a tin plate blowing around in the wind. Now what will he tell his friends? Caillou feels better when he realizes he solved the mystery, regardless of what the flying saucer turned out to be. Leo and the machines run around looking for Pilchard, desperate to find her before Bob finds out that she's disappeared. When Muck admits that he had some part in her disappearance, they all discover that the cat had been sound asleep in his dumper the whole time.

Shiny is determined to get to the top of the mountain forest. Buddy wonders if they'll be able to see anything from the mountaintop through the tall trees. The kids are amazed that the higher they hike, the shorter the trees and bushes get! Then they reach the tree line--a certain point on the mountain where trees are really small because they don't have enough air to breathe and the temperature is too cold. [#117H] Asteroids, Meteors, and Meteorites/Mindy's Meteorite Stand * Asteroids, Meteors, and Meteorites - Sean is determined to beat his mystery competitor at a video game of "Astro-Tracker." When Face 9000 tells the kids about the Asteroid Belt, Sean realizes that the best way to learn about asteroids is to see them for himself. Celery flies them out to space, and the kids learn the difference between an asteroid, a meteor, and a meteorite. Worried at first, Sean learns that only the rare asteroid (called a meteorite) makes it all the way to Earth, so he decides that he'll become really good at "Astro-Tracker" to prepare for the future when he can be on a team of scientists who track rogue asteroids. Curriculum: Asteroids are small solar system bodies that orbit the Sun. Asteroids are similar to comets but do not have a visible coma (fuzzy outline and tail) like comets do. A meteor is a small asteroid that burns up as it passes through the Earth's atmosphere. A meteorite is a piece of asteroid that survives falling through the Earth's atmosphere and collides with the Earth's surface.
    * Mindy's Meteorite Stand - When Mindy and Sunspot are digging in the yard, they discover a unique rock that Mindy is convinced is a meteorite. The kids conduct a series of tests to find out and amazingly the rock passes each test. "Meteorite fever" grips the neighborhood, as Mindy sets up a stand so people can see her meteorite, and bring her rocks to assess. In the end, a DSA scientist confirms that Mindy's rock actually isn't a meteor... but, wait, the random rock Mindy's sitting on is! Curriculum: Meteorites are pieces of space rocks (asteroids) that break up when they hit the Earth's atmosphere and fall in small pieces. Meteorites are older than any rock from Earth, and share certain characteristics: density (high), attraction to a magnet, and rust.

      *UPDATE: The tower crew will work the Fremont peak tower as of 11am, Thursday, Nov 30th. We will need to lower power on KQET, Channel 25, to 25% at 10:30am through 4-5pm. Thank you for your patience!

    • Scheduled Maintenance 8/21-8/25

      Next week, Sutro Tower will be switching most stations to their auxiliary antennas. KQED TV will be at half power on the lower auxiliary antenna, this will affect some of our Over The Air viewers. Maintenance is scheduled on August 21-25 from 9am through 4pm daily.
