Picture of Dorian Gray Previous Broadcasts

1945 (B&W) (Episode #1091)

KQED 9: Sat, Apr 5, 2014 -- 8:00 PM

Haunting version of the Oscar Wilde story of man whose painting ages while he retains youth. Hurd Hatfield stars as the handsome, young Dorian Gray, but the standout performances are by young Angela Lansbury (who sings "The Little Yellow Bird'') and George Sanders as the elegant Lord Henry Wotton, and who delivers the line: "It's an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world." A B&W classic with touches of color inserted throughout the film. Harry Stradling' won an Oscar for his cinematography. (Keep an eye out for Lansbury's real-life mother Moyna MacGill as the Duchess).
