Joan Fontaine gives an Oscar-winning performance as wealthy but shy Lina McLaidlaw, a woman who thinks she has found her true love in Johnny Aysgarth (Cary Grant), a handsome gambler she meets on a train when he tries to travel first class with a third class ticket. But love turns to suspicion when Johnny's good friend and business partner Beaky (Nigel Bruce) turns up dead. The cast also features Cedric Hardwicke and Dame May Whitty as General and Mrs. McLaidlaw. The film received an Oscar nomination Best Picture in 1941, along with another nod for its dramatic score by Franz Waxman. Produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
