Rita Wilson (Episode #106H)

KQED Life: Sat, Oct 14, 2017 -- 9:00 PM

Rita Wilson is well-known as an actress (It's Complicated, Sleepless in Seattle, a recurring role on CBS's The Good Wife, HBO's award-winning series Girlsand, most recently on Broadway in Larry David's smash hit, Fish in the Dark), and as a film producer (Mamma Mia!, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and its upcoming sequel), but Wilson's first love is music. Wilson achieved her dream with the 2012 Decca Records release of her debut album, AM/FM, an intimate, elegant and beautifully sung collection of classics from the '60s and '70s that taken together make up the soundtrack of her youth. Since the release of AM/FM, Wilson has focused on a new component of her music as a songwriter. During the past two years, she has collaborated with a number of extraordinarily talented and successful songwriters composing original material for her second album scheduled for a March 2016 release. On The Kate Rita Wilson explores those early influences and showcases her love for songwriting.

Barb Jungr (Episode #105H)

KQED Life: Sat, Oct 7, 2017 -- 9:00 PM

Award-winning British songstress Barb Jungr is renowned for her vocal style, interpretation of song and radical approach to arrangements. Barb's latest musical exploration, Shelter From The Storm, is a masterful take on healing songs arranged with the help of legendary jazz pianist Laurence Hobgood. Experience Leonard Cohen's "Sisters of Mercy," Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" and David Bowie's "Life on Mars" through Barb Jungr's provocative musical lens. It doesn't take long to fall captive to Jungr's cheeky British humor and charisma brilliantly paired with the conceptual weight and lyrical depth of her song selections. Jungr and Hobgood are joined by bassist Michael Olatuja (Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan) and percussionist Wilson Torres (In The Heights, The New York Philharmonic).
