Pascoe, Lateef and Posh continue their efforts to prove the innocence of their boss. As the story unravels, the murder of a Sheffield Wednesday football fan and the disappearance of a young Muslim British woman all look to be linked to the murder for which Dalziel is the suspect. Eventually they discover that revenge, illegal diamond dealing, honour killings and police corruption lie at the heart of the mystery.

Whoever killed Martin Bendelow was on the coach, but Dalziel and Pascoe discover that Hawkins was not the only person with a motive to kill.

Pal Miclean and Bill Walker began building their empire in the early 1960s when they were asked to renovate the building. They also had another job on the go: renovating two wings of the old Royal Infirmary, where they came across some machines which contained radioactive material.
