This program presents five examples of American states and cities tapping new sources of energy and implementing policies to promote sustainability - Alaska, Kansas, Baltimore Maryland, Fort Worth Texas, and Portland Oregon. Host Richard Alley offers stories about America's past use of wood and whales as sources of energy, the promise of more efficient lighting, and how to achieve a science-based national consensus on smart choices about energy and climate. On-camera comments also come from energy expert Daniel Yergin, author of "The Quest"; RPI President and former head of the NRC,Shirley Jackson; utility CEO David Crane, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Congressman Earl Blumenauer, and a lively case of characters.
