Easy Elegant Tarts (Episode #107)

KQED Life: Mon, Jun 14, 2010 -- 11:30 AM

Tarts are often considered fancy and intricate. Similar to a pie, the crust is often sweeter and contains less filling. Today's tart recipes are easy to prepare and they look and taste just as sophisticated as the ones from a pastry shop or restaurant. John bakes blueberry tart, rustic nectarine tart, pear tart and key lime tart.

Classic Cookies (Episode #108)

KQED Life: Mon, Jun 21, 2010 -- 11:30 AM

Cookies are perhaps the easiest and fastest baked sweets you can make. On today's show, John makes four classic cookie recipes: kitchen sink cookies, packed with chocolate chunks, raisins and pecans; peanut butter surprise cookies, soft and chewy and topped with a chocolate peanut butter cup; two kinds of icebox shortbread cookies, one flavored with orange zest and cranberries and the other containing dried apricots and pistachios. And the cookie jar wouldn't be complete without oatmeal date cookies.

The Best Cakes (Episode #109)

KQED Life: Mon, Jun 28, 2010 -- 11:30 AM

There's something magical about a cake. Whether it's a simple sheet cake or a triple-layer showstopper, cakes bring a smile. Everyday Food has developed a variety of easy recipes for single, double and triple layer cakes. On today's show, John makes coconut layer cake, Boston cream pie, spiced carrot cake and a triple layer apple cake.

Simple Cakes (Episode #106H)

KQED Life: Mon, Jun 7, 2010 -- 11:30 AM

Today's recipes are for cakes that are simple, delicious and beautiful. And each one takes less than 30 minutes to prepare before going into the oven. John makes pumpkin spice cake with honey frosting, flourless chocolate cake, orange cornmeal cake and peach buckle.
