Dry December Prompts Yosemite to Open Tioga Pass

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

December has been a dry month in California. It's been so dry and snow-free, in fact, that Yosemite National Park officials reopened the Tioga Pass road for the second time this month. Highway 120 crosses Yosemite and climbs to almost 10,000 feet. It's usually buried from November to late May. This is only the third time park officials have opened the pass to drivers in December since 1980.

  • Mike Pechner: owner of Golden West Meteorology and a former weatherman at KCBS.
