KQED.org > Youth Media Corps Spring 2003

Who am I? My name is Loretta! This is the second project that I've done with the Intel Computer Clubhouse/KQED's Youth Media Corps. This Local Heroes project was particularly inspiring because all the "heroes" were very real and have clearly made a difference in many people's lives. I work in high tech, so it's a natural fit for me to mentor kids and teach them about how to use technology. We live in a very sophisticated society, and on a rational level, I think it's important to expose kids and young adults to technology and media as early as possible. But at the end of the day, it's a ton of fun and that's what keeps me coming back!

"Hero" is a very subjective term, but to me a hero is anyone that takes the time to help out someone else in need -- it could be a very small thing, or it could be a life altering tireless endeavor. Either way, it's not the magnitude, but simply the intent and the effort.

Not much more to say about me, I like being outdoors, yoga, jazz, tap, funk and ballet (have danced all my life and hope to dance until I'm old and gray!), kids, dogs, laughing, staying close to friends and family, singing in the car and on the hiking trail.

"Let us be grateful for those that make us happy for they are the charming gardeners that makes our souls blossom." --Proust
