The Youth Media Corps Juvenile Justice Campaign believes that it is important to voice teen perspectives so that we may be heard and understood. We ultimately want to empower all youth to take on the issues that affect their own lives.

In response to the media’s negative and criminalizing portrayals of youth, the Youth Media Corps Juvenile Justice Campaign:

  • encourages people to investigate the true causes of crime, such as poverty and lack of resources
  • emphasizes the need to prioritize rehabilitation over incarceration
  • recognizes the importance of community building and afterschool programs that help youth achieve success
  • highlights youth who are working to improve themselves and the world by promoting restorative justice and fairness in the juvenile justice system
