The California Report: Health Dialogues
Menopause poses physical and psychological challenges for many women approaching middle age. The symptoms can include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, extreme exhaustion and depression. Hormone replacement therapy has been a popular option for women dealing with many of the physical and psychological discomforts of menopause. The drug treatment has also been touted as a preventive measure for osteoporosis and heart disease in women. But this past summer health experts prematurely ended a study after finding an increased risk of heart disease, stroke and breast cancer. What other health care options are available for women experiencing menopause or perimenopause?
