The California Report: Health Dialogues
Many Californians can˙t read the instructions on a medicine bottle, let alone understand complex medical terms. Yet more and more health care decisions are being put in the hands of the patients. Insurers and health care providers aren˙t the only ones calling for increased patient autonomy. With a proliferation of drug advertisements targeted directly at consumers, patients must be more alert than ever in sorting out fact from fiction. This edition of Health Dialogues will look at ways that Californians cope with confusing medical decisions. How can the state's health care system help patients educate themselves? How can new technologies like the Internet help?
