The California Report: Health Dialogues
Some public health leaders in California warn that so many aspects of the state's health care system are in crisis that the entire California health care system could break down. The health care system's funding mechanisms, provider networks and information systems are uncoordinated, bureaucratic, fragmented and incompatible, they say. Set against this grim backdrop, Health Dialogues will look at the financial status of our hospitals, which some see as symbolic of the current state of our health care patchwork. Government policies have left many health care institutions under-funded at a time when the state’s population, diversity, and need for health services have rapidly increased. Hospitals that are not in the red operate on paper-thin margins.
