According to the National Institutes
of Health, nearly one in three adults abuses alcohol or is alcoholic.
The consequences of this problem are astronomical, with billions of
dollars spent each year on the health care and legal costs associated
with the disease. If you’re a woman, statistics show you’re
less likely to become an alcoholic but much more likely to die from
it should you develop the disease. Alcoholism is one of the least
talked about but most common addictions in California. Concerned communities
are trying a variety of innovative approaches to address the problem.
We'll look at the problem in a state where alcohol is often romanticized.
