Excerpts from a Speech on the Process of Creativity

have courage - fail enough to succeed

if you don't stretch, you won't know where the edge is.

read what has stood up to the test of time

you do the reading - don't delegate - they'll get smart, not you

read everything! - body language - words - behaviors
          don't limit your clues

think how others feel - be concerned for human beings
          and their lives
          (they are your customers)

think and see (the mind's eye) like a camera
          close up or wide angle

see in new ways -
when you take the time to see
       the wonders become commonplace
       and the commonplace become wonders

take the time -
bring together unrelated ideas that lead to new connections

take risks - dare! dare! dare!

being creative is dangerous
you will not always be understood
          you may even incite envy
          and veiled hostility!

most of all nurture humor - wherever you find it
              in others, or yourself

in conclusion, this is an almost grocery list - there's no recipe
               for this stew!
