"Watching Jean in action left no doubt that she was a practical, expert organizer in the here and now; a gentle revolutionary whose healing calm and accepting spirit were testimony to the better world that a feminist revolution might bring." -- Gloria Steinem, from the forward to Goddesses in Everywomen
Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D., is a Jungian analyst in private practice, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, and internationally renowned lecturer and author. Her books include the best-selling Goddesses in Everywoman, The Tao of Psychology, Gods in Everyman, Close to the Bone, Crossing to Avalon and Ring of Power.
Dr. Bolen is an advocate for women, women's issues, and ethics in psychiatry. In all of her work, she emphasizes "the question of meaning and the need for a spiritual dimension in life, while also taking into account the powerful effects of archetypes within us and family and culture upon us."
Bolen's most recent book, The Millionth Circle, grew out of her decades-long work with women's circles - support groups, book clubs, professional groups and others. In The Millionth Circle, Bolen provides the tools and inspiration for women's circles to become vehicles for societal and psycho-spiritual change.
Dr. Bolen is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, past chairperson of the APA Council of National Affairs, and a former board member of the Ms. Foundation for Women. Dr. Bolen has also appeared in two acclaimed documentaries, the Academy Award-winning anti-nuclear film, "Women - For America, For the World and Goddess Remembered."
