Watch for these other youth-oriented programs coming up on PBS:
May 4, 2001
Bay Window: Gun Shots -- KQED and The Center for Investigative Reporting co-produce Gun Shots, a one-hour television documentary examining gun violence and the safety in our neighborhoods. Gun violence has infected California and the nation and we will hear from citizens and law enforcement officials about what efforts are underway to stop it at the local, state and federal levels. The costs of this violence is immeasurable. It negatively influences education, investment, employment opportunity, incarceration, psychological development, and drug addiction. Overall, billions of dollars are spent each year in medical services, law enforcement and private security to counter the effects of gun violence.
Gun Shots will focus on an unprecedented lawsuit against the gun industry, based in part on the largest gun trafficking case ever prosecuted in the Bay Area. The program will then set this regional story in the context of the new Bush Administration, which is expected to alter or slow current gun violence prevention programs.
