In an effort to seek redress on behalf of those whose human rights have been grossly violated, CJA files civil lawsuits in the courts of the United States under the Alien Tort Claims Act (ATCA) and the Torture Victim Protection Act (TVPA) against human rights violators from abroad who reside, visit, or keep assets in the United States. Additional activities include facilitating visa revocation, exclusion and removal of human rights violators, and providing witnesses and evidence to federal officials, international tribunals and other entities responsible for prosecuting perpetrators of human rights violations.

Well-Founded Fear

Well-Founded Fear is a documentary about what goes on behind the electronic doors of the asylum office, the dramatic real-life stage where American ideals about human rights collide with the nearly impossible task of trying to know the truth. With inside access never before granted to any outsiders, Well-Founded Fear enters the closed corridors of the INS for an extraordinary close-up look at what has been called "the Ellis Island of the 21st Century". The PBS/P.O.V. premiere of the film aired locally on KQED TV9 June 14, 2000.

The web site features a Facilitators Guide which contains brief historical background on asylum in the U.S as well as themes and discussion questions for using the film to initiate dialogue on the issues of political asylum and human rights. The Tool Kit includes facilitator's guide, glossary of terms, fact sheet, sample press materials as well as activity suggestions on how to use Well-Founded Fear in your community.
