The INS background checks are a standard part of ensuring the safety of both the community at large and the political asylum applicants themselves. What are your concerns in regards to the issue of public safety and those seeking political asylum?


The majority of potential asylees who enter the country without valid documents are detained in jail throughout the removal hearings under the expedited removal process. What would you recommend as a reasonable alternative to forced detention?
