Damon Gilkerson has successfully completed his freshman year at UCLA. After a summer internship at Hewlett-Packard, he will be continuing his studies as a Computer Science and Engineering major this fall. Damon feels that his high school education prepared him well for the challenge of adjusting to collegiate life. According to Damon, Ailed Paningbatan loved her first year at UC Berkeley and received supportive responses from viewers who had seen Making the Grade. (Unfortunately, KQED TV9 was unable to reach Ailed before tonight's broadcast.)

Listen to a Quicktime audio file from a recent interview with Damon:

About the Program
As two Bay Area high school seniors apply to the University of California at Berkeley, Making the Grade examines the complicated issues around recent changes in California's affirmative action policies. Now that the state bans race as a factor in admissions, how does the University decide who gets in and who doesn't? Is this fair? How can equal educational opportunitites be achieved for all students?

The letters are in - find out who got accepted into UC Berkeley.
