Yanks Fight The Kaiser: A National Guard Division in WWI This documentary employs archival photographs, silent movies, period newsreels and German war footage to piece together the story of one National Guard unit's contributions to the "War to End all Wars." The 26th "Yankee" Division, comprised of citizen-soldiers from all six New England states, arrived in France in the fall of 1917, ill-equipped and untrained. Their previous combat experience took place on the Mexican border, where they tried - unsuccessfully - to defeat Pancho Villa's army. Over the course of four months, the French trained the Americans to survive the rigors of trench warfare. Ultimately, this relatively inexperienced regiment played a key role in every major battle of the war, fighting alongside General Pershing's three veteran army divisions. duration 56:46   STEREO TVPG (Secondary audio: none)

Remembering Vietnam: The Telling Project REMEMBERING VIETNAM: THE TELLING PROJECT takes viewers behind-the-scenes as national performing arts organization, The Telling Project, works with Minnesota veterans of the Vietnam War and armed conflict in Laos to create a play in which veterans share their stories. The one-hour program follows the cast - including former Army nurse Mary Beth Crowley, Marine veteran Ken Plant, retired Navy service member Ken Sholes, 20-plus-year Army veteran Ray Wilson, and the son of a Laos army officer, Khang Yang - through interviews, time spent with their families and friends, and rehearsals culminating in a performance with an invited audience. duration 56:46   STEREO TVPG (Secondary audio: none)

American War Stories: Vietnam [#101] Escalation Escalation focuses on the growing U.S. involvement in Southeast Asia from the mid-50's and early 60's, a time when America sent 'military assistance and advice' to a beleaguered South Vietnam increasingly under attack by the Communist North. American involvement escalated dramatically after the first combat Marines arrived in 1965 and the bombing campaign known as Rolling Thunder began. Through first-hand accounts of the men and women who were there, the documentary explores how they flew the planes, cruised up the Mekong Delta, and slogged through the jungles and rice paddies to try to locate an elusive enemy. Veterans of the rear echelon describe how they supplied the mountains of materiel necessary to support the growing forces. Escalation also explores the new tactics our military used in this war to fight an almost unseen enemy, including the same guerilla tactics they employed, and embracing the groundbreaking technology of helicopter warfare. duration 56:47   STEREO TVG (Secondary audio: none)
