7:00 amGlobalization at the Crossroads with Hernando de Soto The recent political changes which have occurred across North Africa and in the Arab world result from a variety of factors, but most relevant is the fact that the vast majority of the world's population has been systematically locked out of a profitable economic system by Byzantine legal procedures and political repression. Globalization At The Crossroads features renowned Peruvian economist and author, Hernando de Soto, whose twenty years of research indicate that only in places where there is widespread personal property ownership--coupled with inclusive, efficient, and transparent business and property law-do economies prosper. This program demonstrates how the West successfully revolutionized its legal systems, property laws, and developed the modern corporation. Other nations that have instituted private property and business reforms, such as post-WWII Japan and present day China, have seen their economies take off and their middle classes grow. Globalization At The Crossroads explores the legal and social revolution in Albania, China, Japan, Switzerland, Tanzania and the United States, and concludes that unless we include the 80% of humanity currently excluded from the economic system, they will bring the civilization down, as they have brought down other civilizations in the past. Globalization is the new civilization. duration 56:46 STEREO TVG

8:00 amStanding Bear's Footsteps The story of an Indian chief who went to court to prove he was a person... and in the process redefined what it means to be an American. The documentary traces one man's journey from his Nebraska homeland to the malaria-infested plains of Indian Territory and finally to a trial that made front page news across America.
Standing Bear's odyssey began in 1877 when the Ponca tribe was exiled from the Niobrara valley to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma, a place they called death country. As Standing Bear's son was dying, he begged his father to take his body home and bury him with his ancestors. In January of 1879, Standing Bear began the long walk north to keep his promise. Before he and his small band could make it home they were arrested and imprisoned at Fort Omaha. With the secret support of a famous army general, Standing Bear sued the US government for his freedom. The film weaves interviews, re-creations and present day scenes to tell a story about human rights, one that resonates powerfully in the present. "I am a man," Standing Bear said at his trial. "The same God made us both." duration 56:46 STEREO TVPG -
