    PBS Arts from Miami: Miami City Ballet Dances Balanchine and Tharp This program spotlights one of America's finest regional ballet companies, Edward Villella's Miami City Ballet. The program -- a trio of signature works by George Balanchine and Twyla Tharp respectively -- showcases the company's critically acclaimed performances of Balanchine's "Square Dance" and "Western Symphony," as well as Tharp's "The Golden Section." From their home base in Miami Beach (and utilizing four performing venues in south Florida), Miami City Ballet is now approaching 26 years of accomplished dancing with more than 88 ballets in its repertoire. Villella is one of America's most celebrated male dancers; the artistry and versatility he exhibited during his long career with the New York City Ballet (1957 to 1975), and in concert appearances across the United States and Europe and on television, did much to popularize the role of the male in dance. The 15- minute segments are frequently coupled together to fill a 30- minute time slot at the option of local programmers. The first three shows demonstrate and explain three to four new postures or exercises per show. The last two shows serve as review so the viewer has a chance to make certain they followed and understood correctly. In addition, if the viewer missed a show, the Thursday and Friday review days bring them up-to-date. At the onset, the program is strictly teaching the "building blocks" of yoga exercise. As the series progresses, the work becomes more demanding.     Landscapes Through Time with David Dunlop [#110] The Luminous Landscapes of John Frederick Kensett, Contentment Island, CT The Luminists were considered to be a subgroup of the Hudson River Painters. While these younger painters shared the same traditions of the Hudson River Painters, artists such as John Kensett (1816-1872) were more interested in the subtle effects of daylight, especially at dawn and dusk, than in the graphic representation of a specific place or landscape. This program will outline the evolution of Kensett from a Hudson River Artist-Explorer to an American Luminist. We will visit Contentment Island in Connecticut, where he lived and painted after the end of the Civil War and sought to reveal the serene quality of light and weather. The real, flamboyant Mr. Selfridge revolutionized the way that Londoners shopped by introducing a new American retail model that made shopping less of a practical pursuit and more of a luxurious adventure.
    Keen to put the shopper's experience above all else it was Selfridge who coined the phrase "the customer is always right," an expression that has become the mantra of retail stores all over the world. Once PSIP was restored most OTA receivers moved our signal back to the correct channel locations. However, for some viewers, it appears as if they have lost […]

      The Martinez translator for KQED-FM will be off the air all day Tuesday June 3rd. We are rebuilding the 25 year old site with all new antennas and cabling. This should only affect people listening on 88.1MHz in the Martinez/Benicia area.

      (DT25.1, 25.2, 25.3) KQET’s Over The Air (OTA) signal will shut down late May 12/early Tues 5/13 shortly after midnight to allow for extensive electrical maintenance work at the transmitter.
