Healing A.D.D. with Dr. Daniel Amen ADD or ADHD is a national health crisis that continues to grow-yet it remains one of the most misunderstood and incorrectly treated illnesses today. Kids and adults are put on powerful stimulant medications in short office visits without any biological information, and the stories of these medications hurting children and adults are common and persistent.
In this national public television program, psychiatrist Daniel Amen and his wife nurse Tana Amen take a completely new look at ADD and explain 7 unique types based on the extensive brain imaging work of the Amen Clinics on tens of thousands of ADD patients. Treating all people with ADD the same invites failure and frustration and can be a disaster, as the traditional treatments that make two of the types better can make the other 5 types worse.
The show is divided into three parts. In Part One, the myths and misconceptions about ADD will be discussed as well as the hallmark ADD symptoms. In Part Two, the 7 different types of ADD will be described in detail. And, in Part Three Dr. and Mrs. Amen we'll give you a clear method for Healing ADD, including the best natural treatments. They are not opposed to medication, but think it's smart to start with lifestyle and natural treatments first.

Heal Yourself: Mind Over Medicine with Lissa Rankin, MD This special is based on the 2013 New York Times bestselling book, Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof that Your Can Heal Yourself by Lissa Rankin, MD. It is a meticulously researched explanation of the critical role our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs play in our health and wellbeing - and how we can harness the power of our minds to enjoy great health and longevity with specific, easy-to-do steps.
Part 1 covers topics such as why Western medicine is very important; your brain is most important organ for your health; "Learned helplessness"; and asking what does your body need in order to heal?
Part 2 includes an explanation of the placebo effect with examples; explanation of the nocebo effect and of the role the amygdala plays in the brain and how it controls stress; understanding how the body has its own self-repair mechanisms, which are under the influence of the nervous system; and why the body's self-repair mechanisms only work when the relaxation response is activated.
Part 3 covers the importance of reducing stress response for self-healing and optimal health; Dr. Rankin's groundbreaking new wellness model: The Whole Health Cairn; why physical health is only one aspect of whole health; the difference between being healed and being cured; and healing ourselves, healing health care.
Dr. Rankin is a trained ob-gyn who has emerged as one of the newest thought leaders in the mind/body medicine arena. Her work has been featured extensively in national media, including O magazine, The New York Times, CNN, Health, Women's Health, Self, Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan. She is also the founder of The Whole Health Medicine Institute, dedicated to teaching doctors how to provide truly integrative health and wellness to patients. Its Board includes Dr. Bernie Siegel, Dr. Larry Dossey and Dr. Christiane Northrup, who says about Lissa, "What a pleasure it is to see the next generation of physicians waking up to what I call real medicine - the kind that acknowledges our true power to heal and be well."

Zoboomafoo [#120] Animal Daycare Martin and Chris are exhausted after an around-the-world hike, but there's no time to sleep because Animal Junction's full of babies: lynx and bobcat kittens, a baby ring tail lemur. Needless to say, Zoboo, Martin and Chris have their hands full. Babies can be pretty helpless and need lots of care. Babies are also pretty vocal when they are in need of something, especially these creature babies. Jackie and the Animal Helpers are returning from blueberry picking when they discover a baby bird that's fallen out of his nest. The nest is too high for them to reach, so they put the bird into a blueberry basket and set the basket into the crotch of the tree. That way the bird's mom will find his new nest and feed him. duration 28:46   STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

As he and Susan try to settle them down to sleep, Luis and Maria tackle the water pipe leak in the basement. When Oscar pops in to "help," he startles Maria and the valve handle falls into the water. Oscar happens to have a snorkel on, so he dives under water to look for the valve handle which has a circle in the middle. First he pops up with a tricycle tire which is shaped like a circle, but clearly won't work as a valve handle. Then he pops up with an old flute. When Maria tries to use it as a valve handle, she observes that circles in the flute actually fit over the circle on the valve. Maria stops the big leak! Maria and Luis then turn to the plumbing blueprints to guide and help them fix the broken pipes. They see that a curvy piece of pipe is missing and Oscar once more dives down to see what he can find. After popping up with a straight paintbrush and a curvy straw which won't work, he finds a vacuum hose. Maria bends it into the right shape and uses it to fix the leak! Finally Ernie and Bert fall asleep as Maria and Luis come upstairs to tell everyone the good news and how Oscar helped save the day! duration 58:46   STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)
