Nature [#3104] Meet The Coywolf The coywolf, a mixture of western coyote and eastern wolf, is a hauntingly beautiful carnivore found increasingly on the streets of North American cities. Its appearance is very recent -- within the last 90 years -- in evolutionary terms, a blip in time. The story of how it came to be begins in Canada but by no means ends there. It is a tale of how quickly adaptation and evolution can occur, especially when humans interfere. New York wildlife biologist Roland Kay is fascinated by this new hybrid, the product of a shifting gene pool that is now stabilizing. Kays tracks and photographs coywolves with remote motion sensor cameras, collects road kill and scat, and obtains tissue and bone samples from fur trappers, hunters, and others to unravel the mysteries that define this new species. duration 56:46   STEREO TVPG (Secondary audio: none)

Brains On Trial with Alan Alda [#101H] Determining Guilt On trial is Jimmy Moran, who at 18 took part in a store robbery during which the storeowner's wife was shot and grievously injured. Presiding is distinguished US District Judge Jed S. Rakoff, who has a longstanding interest in neuroscience and its conceivable effect on criminal law. The trial raises common questions: Is a witness lying? How reliable is eyewitness testimony? What's the best way to avoid a biased jury? How well can the defendant's intentions be judged? Alan Alda explores how brain-scanning technology is providing insights into these questions and discusses the implications of neuroscience entering the courtroom. duration 56:46   STEREO TVPG-V

Meanwhile, Alan Alda discovers how neuroscience is already influencing the sentencing of defendants - especially young defendants - by revealing how the immature teenage brain is vulnerable to foolish and impulsive acts. Before Judge Rakoff pronounces Jimmy's sentence, Alda meets a judge who has volunteered to have his own brain probed as he makes sentencing decisions. duration 56:46   STEREO TVPG-V

When Percy says that Charlie is more fun than Thomas, it makes Thomas worried. Thomas doesn't want Charlie to think he isn't fun, so when Charlie starts racing around the island, Thomas joins in, but a bumpy track causes Annie and Clarabel to uncouple from Thomas and he puffs off leaving Miss Botti behind. Arriving late and without Miss Botti, Sir Topham Hatt is cross with Thomas. Thomas searches for Miss Botti and finds out that she is having a marvelous time singing to anyone who will listen and more than ready for the concert. While Percy is at the Sodor Steam Works being repaired, Thomas is excited to be given the job of doing the mail run for him. Gordon advises Thomas to ask Percy for advice but Thomas thinks he knows all about how to deliver the mail. He sets off very early in the morning, tooting his whistle loudly wherever he goes. In the process, Thomas wakes up Mavis, Cranky, Victor and Kevin. Later, the sleepy engines make mistakes and Thomas realizes his error. The next morning, having learned a few lessons from Percy, Thomas does the mail run again, this time very quietly. duration 28:46   STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

Suddenly, Iggy the dog, who is supposed to be fetching a stick with Rosita, comes and takes the letter "I!" Telly and Elmo chase Iggy, but can't catch him. How will they get him to drop their letter "I?" They think hard and decide to go incognito, or in disguise, as leafy bushes. The bushes make Elmo's nose itch. When he sneezes, he blows their cover and scares Iggy. They think again and come up with another idea: they will tickle Iggy's nose. This works, but the letter "I" goes flying, bounces off of Telly's head, and lands back in Iggy's mouth. They think again and decide to give Iggy doggy ice cream. Just when Iggy goes to eat it, Telly tries to grab the letter but Iggy snatches the letter and runs off. As they continue chasing Iggy, they run into Rosita. Iggy returns the letter to Rosita, since he thought they were playing fetch the whole time!
