Nova [#3107] Hunt for the Supertwister A powerful tornado is a terrifying phenomenon that continues to defy decades of scientific efforts to predict it. During one of the worst tornado seasons on record, a Nova camera team chased across the Midwest, capturing hair-raising footage of highly destructive twisters in action. But this is much more than just another "extreme weather" show, focusing on the efforts of two scientists at the University of Oklahoma to develop radically different approaches to forecasting twisters: one relies on "virtual tornadoes" created inside supercomputers, while the other involves hunting down real-life storms to collect data firsthand (the method that inspired the movie Twister). With jaw-dropping 3-Dgraphics generated by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, this program features spectacular footage of these terrifying twisters and gives viewers a front-row seat to the risky and thrilling art of storm chasing. duration 55:28   STEREO TVPG (Secondary audio: DVI)

Nova [#4015H] Oklahoma's Deadliest Tornadoes On May 20th 2013, a ferocious F5 tornado over a mile wide tore through Moore, Oklahoma, inflicting 24 deaths and obliterating entire neighborhoods. It was the third time an exceptionally violent tornado had struck the city in 14 years. Yet predicting when and where these killer storms will hit still poses a huge challenge. Why was 2011 - the worst ever recorded tornado season that left 158 dead in Joplin, Missouri - followed by the quietest ever year of activity prior to the Moore disaster? Can improved radar and warning technology explain why so many fewer died in Moore than in Joplin? And will tornadoes get worse as Earth's climate heats up? In this Nova special, we meet scientists in the front ranks of the battle to understand these extreme weather events. We also meet storm survivors whose lives have been upended, and learn how we can protect ourselves and our communities for the uncertain future. duration 56:16   STEREO TVPG

Joy of Sox Weird Science and the Power of Intention People everywhere are moved by the power of groups, whether it's at a concert, in a congregation or at a political rally. The new science of consciousness research has proven that invisible energies are the key to this power, and the pre-eminent laboratory for studying these forces is an unexpected location: at the ballpark.
In this program Harvard psychiatrist and energy medicine practitioner Rick Leskowitz describes how his lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox helped him discover that the principles of energy medicine and intentionality research explain the intangibles in sports: the home field advantage, the electricity in the crowd, team chemistry and the prayers of fans. Viewers will discover that computer studies have measured fan energy at Fenway Park, watch live lab tests (with Dr. L. as the guinea pig) that prove how positive emotions are contagious, and learn how energetically savvy fans can enhance their team's performance by using enthusiasm and appreciation to get their team into The Zone. This program even answers the age-old question: is your favorite sports stadium a sacred space? Find out by using software from Princeton that can detect "the vibe".
The Joy of Sox builds a foundation of scientific evidence in support of these mysterious forces by interviewing Hall of Fame scientists and researchers like Larry Dossey, William Tiller, Dean Radin, Donna Eden, Esther Hicks and Michael Murphy. Ballplayers like David Ortiz and Bill "Spaceman" Lee talk about their experience when immersed in powerful energy fields, both positive and negative. And fans describe their own ways of harnessing the power of intention. This film is a Trojan Horse - it brings esoteric research into the social mainstream while camouflaged as a story about popular sports. But by uncovering the New Science concepts that underly the familiar events of baseball, The Joy of Sox works its transformative magic on our teams, ourselves and our society.
