  Moyers & Company [#208H] Fighting Creeping Creationism * Religious fundamentalists backed by the Right Wing are finding increasingly stealthy ways to challenge evolution with the dogma of creationism. Their strategy includes passing education laws that encourage teaching creationism alongside evolution, and supporting school vouchers to transfer taxpayer money from public to private schools, where they can push a creationist agenda. But they didn't count on 19-year-old anti-creationism activist Zack Kopplin.
  From the time he was a high school senior in his home state of Louisiana, Kopplin has been speaking, debating, cornering politicians, and winning the active support of 78 Nobel Laureates, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the New Orleans City Council, and tens of thousands of students, teachers and others around the country. This week, the Rice University history major joins Bill to talk about fighting laws and voucher programs that let publicly-funded creationist curriculum in the backdoor.

As Elmo, Telly, and Abby think about their quest, they hear a whimpering letter "Y." When they ask the letter "Y" why he is crying, he tells them he is unsure of his purpose in life. He can't think of any words that begin with the "Yyyy" sound. That's it! Telly decides their quest will be to look for things that begin with the letter "Y." First, they enter Gina's veterinarian office looking for animals that begin with the letter "Y." Then they decide to check the laundromat but they still can't find any "Y" words. Next, they visit Alan at Hooper's store. Just as they are about to leave, they see a hairy cow passing, but are disappointed because hairy cow doesn't begin with a "Y." But wait! Alan explains that the hairy cow is actually a yak, and yak begins with "y." All of the sudden, Abby, Elmo, and Telly think of other words that begin with the letter "Y," such as yogurt and yo-yo. While Baby Bear waits for them to get ready, Telly passes by with a bright purple ice cream cone in his hand. It's Baby Bear's favorite flavor so he takes a tiny, careful taste, but some of the ice cream still spills on him and leaves a big purple stain on his white shirt! Baby Bear and Telly wonder how they can get the stain out. They try many different techniques such as wiping it with a napkin, pounding it with a rock, and vacuuming it off, but everything they try just makes it worse. Next, Telly has an idea to use Zoe's purple paint to cover the stain so Baby Bear will now have a purple shirt. They paint the shirt, but realize that it is going to take at least two hours to dry! Abby appears and offers to practice her new color changing spell. She waves her wand and the shirt turns back to white. But all of a sudden, the shirt comes to life and races off! Baby Bear doesn't know what to do. Gordon comes by and advises him to tell Papa Bear the truth about what happened to his shirt. Even though Baby Bear is worried that Papa Bear will be upset, he tells him the truth about what happened anyway. Papa Bear says that it's okay and thanks him for telling the truth. Thinking Toby will be upset Thomas sets about keeping Flora away from the festival by taking her on all his work errands. Axles aching, Flora runs out of coal just as Toby comes searching for them. Toby is very happy to meet Flora, as he was scared of leading the parade on his own! Thomas realizes he shouldn't have interfered and gives Flora some of his coal so the two trams can set off for the festival. It's winter on the Island of Sodor and James is showing all the engines how he knows best. When Hector suggests checking the weather with the Yard Manager before they leave, James doesn't want to listen -- especially to a truck! James chuffs on ignoring Hector's advice. Taking a wrong turn because of the snow they get trapped behind a snow drift. James realizes he should have listened to Hector and asks him what he thinks they should do.
