  Moyers & Company [#147H] United States of ALEC * In an encore broadcast, Moyers & Company presents a report on the most influential corporate-funded political force most of America has never heard of - ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council. A national consortium of state politicians and powerful corporations, ALEC presents itself as a "nonpartisan public-private partnership". But behind that mantra lies a vast network of corporate lobbying and political action aimed to increase corporate profits at public expense without public knowledge.
  In state houses around the country, hundreds of pieces of boilerplate ALEC legislation are proposed or enacted that would, among other things, dilute collective bargaining rights, make it harder for some Americans to vote, and limit corporate liability for harm caused to consumers - each accomplished without the public ever knowing who's behind it. One Wisconsin politician describes ALEC as "a corporate dating service for lonely legislators and corporate special interests."

Alan asks Chris to distract Cookie Monster while the club meets. Chris tries, but it's too late. Commander Chiphead, the club's Cookie Master, says that Cookie Monster can only taste Alan's cookies if he's a member of the club. To join, he must recite the Cookie Connoisseurs Club Pledge of Allegiance and follow the three rules: to first look at the cookie, then smell the cookie, and finally, only nibble the cookie to savor its flavor. Cookie Monster thinks he can follow these rules, but devours the first cookie right away! Commander Chiphead is not happy, but gives Cookie Monster another chance. Chris suggests that Cookie Monster try to pretend that the cookie is something else to help him control himself. He pretends that it's a yo-yo, which seems to be working, but once Cookie Monster smells the cookie, he eats it right up.. Next, Cookie Monster tries to pretend that the cookie smells like something stinky, which helps him get past rule #2, but as he goes to nibble it, he loses control again. Cookie Monster has one last chance, so this time he keeps reminding himself out loud that he needs to control himself so that he can stay in the club and get to try all sorts of cookies. The strategy works! Now it's time for the last cookie, and Commander Chiphead is so excited because it is one of his favorites. He loses control and devours the entire thing. George tries to squirrel-proof the birdhouse, moving it further from the tree trunk, clearing away freestanding objects, and even developing a pulley laundry line system to hang it from. But to no avail - that squirrel can climb - and apparently eat - anything! Why does Jumpy keep taking the seeds? Has his appetite suddenly grown - or maybe they're not all for him?
  * George-asaurus: Professor Wiseman needs the Man with the Yellow Hat's help to assemble some rare dinosaur bones into a skeleton in time for an important archaeologist, Dr. Raj Desai, to see them. Wiseman and the Man finish the task and meet Dr. Desai for lunch. Meanwhile, George and Gnocchi play outside with a toy plane, which floats though a window--landing on the newly assembled dinosaur. When George climbs the fragile bones to retrieve it, the entire skeleton collapses! Using another dinosaur as a model, George is able to organize, sort, and piece together the bones back into its proper form. She's hoping Nila will stay asleep as long as there aren't any loud noises on Sesame Street. Elmo and Telly decide to become the Noise Patrol and keep loud noises away from Nila! They try to use different tools such as binoculars and a megaphone, but Leela explains that the only tools they need are their ears! Elmo and Telly hear sounds coming from animals playing basketball. Luckily, the animals agree to go to the park to play. Next, Elmo and Telly hear Grover blasting a boombox as he breakdances! After a dance-off and a mishap with the controls, Grover realizes that he can't play loud music around a sleeping baby and leaves after putting on his headphones. Next, Elmo and Telly hear hammering from a construction worker who thankfully agrees to leave for lunch. Just when the Noise Patrol is finally enjoying the quiet, Nila wakes up! Leela explains that they actually don't need to be completely quiet. Nila can listen to Leela as she sings her a lullaby. Instead, Thomas collects leaves and fresh fruit from the other engines to give to the giraffe. By the time Thomas arrives at the Wildlife Centre, the giraffe has settled down in is truck and fallen asleep. Now Thomas can't wake the giraffe to deliver him to his new home. Thomas decides to find someone who really knows how to look after giraffes properly. He races back to the Docks and collects a giraffe keeper who can look after the giraffe. The giraffe is soon delivered to the Wildlife Centre. Everyone is so happy to meet the new giraffe. James in the Dark - Fixing a mistake James refuses to wear a lamp for working at night because it looks "silly". Then, because he can't see very well, he picks up the wrong people - farmers and animals instead of VIPs for a grand concert. James realizes his mistake, takes the farmers and animals to their destination, and returns to the concert. Thomas and Edward have picked up the VIPs James missed. Long influenced by the Chicago blues, the band paid a visit to Muddy Waters' club, the Checkerboard Lounge, to see the legendary bluesman perform. It didn't take long before Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart were joining in on stage, and later Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz also played their part.
