12:00 amMoyers & Company [#147H] United States of ALEC * In an encore broadcast, Moyers & Company presents a report on the most influential corporate-funded political force most of America has never heard of - ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council. A national consortium of state politicians and powerful corporations, ALEC presents itself as a "nonpartisan public-private partnership". But behind that mantra lies a vast network of corporate lobbying and political action aimed to increase corporate profits at public expense without public knowledge.
In state houses around the country, hundreds of pieces of boilerplate ALEC legislation are proposed or enacted that would, among other things, dilute collective bargaining rights, make it harder for some Americans to vote, and limit corporate liability for harm caused to consumers - each accomplished without the public ever knowing who's behind it. One Wisconsin politician describes ALEC as "a corporate dating service for lonely legislators and corporate special interests."
"United States of ALEC" is a collaboration between Okapi Productions, LLC and the Schumann Media Center, headed by Bill Moyers, which supports independent journalism and public watchdogs including the Center for Media and Democracy, whose investigators are featured in the report.< br />* Also re-airing is Bill's conversation with Philip Appleman, whose creativity spans a long life filled with poetry, fiction, philosophy, and religion. A scholar of Charles Darwin, Appleman edited the critical anthology Darwin, and wrote the poetry books Darwin's Ark and Darwin's Bestiary. Appleman's latest poetry collection is Perfidious Proverbs. duration 52:46 STEREO TVG -

6:00 amZoboomafoo [#119] Running Chris, Martin and Zoboo focus on running when an emu stops by Animal Junction. An emu is a bird that's too heavy to fly, but her long legs are great for running. Chris and Martin set about running like each creature they encounter: sideways like a crab, on a tree branch like a fisher, up a wall like a gecko, superfast like a cheetah. Jackie and her friend Matt love to take the neighborhood dogs for a run. Or is it the neighborhood dogs that take them for a run? Either way, running is great exercise for dogs and humans alike, and it's a lot of fun. duration 28:46 STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

7:00 amSesame Street [#4304H] Baby Bear Comes Clean Baby Bear is ready to go to Granny's house with Papa Bear. He has a nice, white shirt on that Papa Bear tells him to keep clean while he gets his sister dressed. While Baby Bear waits for them to get ready, Telly passes by with a bright purple ice cream cone in his hand. It's Baby Bear's favorite flavor so he takes a tiny, careful taste, but some of the ice cream still spills on him and leaves a big purple stain on his white shirt! Baby Bear and Telly wonder how they can get the stain out. They try many different techniques such as wiping it with a napkin, pounding it with a rock, and vacuuming it off, but everything they try just makes it worse. Next, Telly has an idea to use Zoe's purple paint to cover the stain so Baby Bear will now have a purple shirt. They paint the shirt, but realize that it is going to take at least two hours to dry! Abby appears and offers to practice her new color changing spell. She waves her wand and the shirt turns back to white. But all of a sudden, the shirt comes to life and races off! Baby Bear doesn't know what to do. Gordon comes by and advises him to tell Papa Bear the truth about what happened to his shirt. Even though Baby Bear is worried that Papa Bear will be upset, he tells him the truth about what happened anyway. Papa Bear says that it's okay and thanks him for telling the truth. They go off to get a clean shirt and agree no honey for a week! duration 58:46 STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)
