"John Jackson is an excellent guitar-playing friend of mine, " she says, introducing Jackson, who has played with musicians like Bob Dylan and Lucinda Williams. Although the pair performs only with guitars, vocals, and a harmonica,Lynne's music fills the room and captivates the audience. Her set includes three songs from I Am Shelby Lynne, the album that earned her a Grammy in 2001 for Best New Artist.   Sesame Street [#4306H] A Song for the Letter G Elmo, Rosita, and the letter "J" are singing a song about the sound that the letter "J" makes. After the "J" leaves, the letter "G" approaches Rosita and Elmo and tells them that he can make the "juh" sound, too, just like the letter "J", and he can also make the "guh" sound like in the word "gorilla." Elmo and Rosita think it is amazing that "G" can make two sounds! The "G" is upset, though, because he doesn't have a song about him like the letter "J" does. Elmo and Rosita need help thinking of a song that is different from the "J" song, so Super Grover comes to help. He sings a super "G" song, but the letter "G" isn't sure that the song is right for him. Oscar the Grouch offers to make up a different song, but this one is just too yucky. Rosita brings her guitar and sings a song about Spanish words that begin with "G". He likes it, but it's too slow. He's a letter with get up and go. Elmo and Rosita make up a "G" song with a more upbeat sound that gets their bodies moving.   Sesame Street [#4271H] Cast Iron Cooks As Alan finishes packing Elmo's lunch, the lights go down, the music goes up, and Superchef pops up and announces that Alan has been chosen as the next challenger on Cast Iron Cooks. Alan is not even sure what that is, but Chris and Elmo are excited to be his assistants. The first challenge is to prepare a bowl of P Stew, which is made up entirely of ingredients that begin with the letter P. Elmo, Chris, and Alan race around throwing P foods like pickles, peaches, and porridge into a pot. When time is up, Superchef samples their stew, which is horrible. Then he tries the Cast Iron Cooks' stew, which is delicious. But just before Superchef awards the first round to the Cast Iron Cooks', Chris finds a hat in the Cast Iron Cooks' stew, and because hat starts with the letter "h", the points go to Alan. The second challenge is to make an apple pie using exactly 8 apples. Elmo, Alan, and Chris race around looking for apples, and once they find them, Chris accidently adds pepper along with the sugar and cinnamon. The buzzer sounds, and again, Superchef tastes their creations. Alan's pie is horrible. The Cast Iron Cooks', of course, have a delicious pie? but a pair of eyeglasses has been baked into it. So round two goes to Alan! The final challenge is to make a Halfgarian Goulash, which is made up of ingredients cut precisely in half. The buzzer sounds, and the Superchef tastes Alan's goulash and finds it disgusting. The Cast Iron Cooks' goulash is spectacular, with the exception of a wristwatch, which was not cut in half. Also today, Caillou goes to the swimming pool where Daddy teaches Caillou how to swim. After a few lessons, Caillou gets better and better and soon he can swim on his own. Then, Caillou discovers baseball for the first time. He wants to play and patiently Dad works at teaching him. Caillou is all ready to throw in the towel as each toss passes him by, but when he sees Sarah and Billy really doing it he gets an opportunity to practice what he's learned.   Thomas & Friends [#309] Big and Small A new crane arrives on the island, Rocky. Rocky has no engine and is unable to move on his own. Edward dismisses Rocky as new fangled nonsense. When Edward causes a spillage of telegraph poles on the tracks, he calls for Harvey, the smaller crane. But Harvey isn't fast enough, and Gordon steams into the poles and crashes. Harvey can't lift Gordon and Edward realizes that only Rocky is big enough to help. Edward realizes that Rocky is useful after all and is proud to be his friend. Thomas challenges Spencer to a race. He races right through Kellsthorpe station with a gust of wind so strong that it blows Sir Topham Hatt's top hat right off. Sir Topham Hatt is going for tea at the Scottish Castle so he needs his hat! Thomas promises to retrieve the hat and sets off to find it. Thomas chases the hat all over the island, but every time he nearly gets to it, the hat blows away. Eventually Thomas stops. All of a sudden, the hat floats gently onto Thomas' funnel.   * Slow Down for Sloths - Nick and Sally are trying to draw a picture of a butterfly but can't get close enough to see it. Cat takes them to meet Onslow the Sloth, who teaches the kids that when you slow down, the world comes to you.
