Story of India [#102H] The Power of Ideas Michael Wood's epic series moves into the revolutionary years after 500 BC - the Age of the Buddha. He visits India's earliest capital, Patna, and using archaeology, legend and "India's Rosetta stone," explains how the ideas of the Buddha were turned into political reality by the great Indian emperor Ashoka - "one of the most remarkable figures in history" - who sowed the seeds of "history's most dangerous idea." duration 56:46   SRND51 TVPG (Secondary audio: DVI)

Sesame Street [#4280H] Rhyming Block Mother Goose is visiting Sesame Street and needs to write three new nursery rhymes by the end of the day, but she fears she has become a rusty rhymer. Elmo and Abby say they are great rhymers, and they offer to help. Mother Goose explains that to write really good nursery rhymes, you need conflict - when someone wants something or needs something very badly. Just then Alan comes out with 13 fresh cookies that he made for a friend's birthday. Cookie Monster is having a hard time resisting them and Mother Goose sees the conflict. She starts writing and gets stuck rhyming "plate," but Abby comes to the rescue with the word "eight." Mother Goose continues with her rhyme, as Cookie Monster gobbles up the cookies, but this time she can't figure out a rhyme for "done." Once again, Abby calls out a rhyming word - "none!" Elmo feels upset that Abby keeps getting the rhymes faster than him, but Mother Goose assures him that she has two more to come up with. The next rhyme is about Super Grover trying to open a stuck pickle jar for Alan, and Elmo rhymes the next word. But Abby gets the one after that, and Elmo gets more upset. He and Abby get into an argument about it. Their conflict gives Mother Goose an idea for her third rhyme, which is about Elmo and Abby wanting to help, but ending up fighting instead. Together they come up with the rhyming words Mother Goose needs, and they realize that arguing is silly because they are both best friends and good rhymers. duration 58:46   STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

Three of Urrea's books were among scores of others removed from classrooms earlier this year when the Tucson school district eliminated Mexican-American studies on the accusation it was "divisive." Nova [#3911H] Why Ships Sink Are you safe aboard a modern cruise ship? Twenty million passengers embark on cruises each year, vacationing in deluxe "floating cities" that offer everything from swimming pools to shopping malls to ice skating rinks. And the ships just keep getting bigger: The average cruise ship has doubled in size in just the last ten years. Some engineers fear that these towering behemoths are dangerously unstable, and the recent tragedy of the Costa Concordia has raised new questions about their safety. Now, NOVA brings together marine engineering and safety experts to reconstruct the events that led up to famous cruise disasters, including the ill-fated Concordia, the Sea Diamond, and the Oceanos. Are we really safe at sea-or are we on the brink of a 21st century Titanic? duration 56:46   STEREO TVPG

Saving The Titanic She was the pride of the British Empire. A leading example of state-of-the-art engineering in a time of groundbreaking scientific and technological innovations on a global scale: the Titanic. Yet she sank in less than 3 hours after striking an iceberg on April 14, 1912.
We all know about the many deaths in the icy waters, the fates of the rich and famous on the ship's maiden voyage and the dramas that played out in the Titanic's last hours. What is less known, however, is how a team of shipbuilders and engineers attempted to save the stricken vessel. Seeking to answer the question of what happened in the engine and boiler rooms after the collision, this program tells the story of the disaster from below deck, with the action taking place between the time the crew embark the Titanic at Southampton and the eventual sinking of the ship.
Based upon eyewitness accounts, this is the story of 9 central characters from the engineering crew as they work among the huge, coal-fired furnaces heating the boilers and massive dynamos whirring to satisfy the ship's demand for electricity. Their personal stories of bravery are recounted as the men fought courageously to hold back the power of the sea and keep the power systems running, even when they learned that all was lost. Most of these men died but their actions saved many lives.

With limited means of communication or outside support, the people of Takuu must make the heart-wrenching decision of whether to risk their safety and remain on their beloved island or become environmental refugees and begin new lives in neighboring, but foreign, Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.
