  Moyers & Company [#150H] What We Can Learn from Lincoln One reason so many people are disillusioned by the state of things in America - even more so after the terror in Newtown - is that our political system hasn't produced consistently good results in a long time. We've forgotten that democracy is supposed to be about addressing our problems through a political system that encourages bargaining, compromise, and progress. Except for taking us to war, showering largesse on the privileged and powerful, and courting donors instead of representing voters, Washington politics promotes gridlock, paralysis, and stalemate.
  But Bill Moyers points to a new ray of hope - not in politics, but in theaters: the movie Lincoln. This week, Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner, who wrote the film's screenplay, joins Bill for a "history lesson about politics." The two talk about finding the man inside the monument, and what Abraham Lincoln - 147 years after his death - can still teach us all about politics, compromise, and the survival of American democracy.
  "The job of the president is both to make the compromises necessary to actually have things happen in a democracy, which means compromising at a slower pace than anybody would necessarily like," Kushner tells Bill. "At the same time he has to keep telling us where we're going, what we're trying to arrive at. And I think that Obama has done an astonishing job of doing that over and over, of reminding us that government is a good thing, and that we share responsibility for one another because without that shared responsibility our own lives are destroyed."
  "You will be reminded that politics can be made to work for the good of the country," says Bill of the show. "It could even help us reduce the violence in America and make more Newtown tragedies less likely."

Abby explains that it's just a game and says that she doesn't want to play with Elmo anymore. Telly appears and tells Elmo that what helped him to get better at the game was to practice. Elmo asks if Telly will train him and he agrees. After much practice, Elmo feels ready to play hot potato again with Abby. They play together and this time Elmo wins- again and again and again. But when Elmo begins to show off, it makes Abby not want to play anymore. Leela passes by and realizes the problem. She explains that it's fine to be good at something and to feel proud of yourself, but sometimes it is easy to get very excited about winning and get carried away. You may think that winning is everything and may even forget how you are making someone else feel. Leela says that the trick is to be a good sport, someone who, when they win, doesn't show off, and when they lose, doesn't get too upset. Elmo realizes that he wasn't a good sport and understands why Abby didn't want to play with him. Elmo sings a song about not meaning to hurt Abby's feelings, and he apologizes. Cookie Monster, panicked, explains that even though he does love to eat healthy carrots, he is not the Veggie Monster. But everyone insists on calling him the Veggie Monster anyway. This makes Cookie Monster really unhappy. He decides to eat a cookie so that nobody will call him Veggie Monster anymore. He asks Big Bird and Snuffy if they have any cookies to eat, but all they have is birdseed, spaghetti, and cabbage. Cookie Monster tastes the cabbage for the first time and thinks it's delicious! Just then, Mario appears and reports that Cookie Monster is eating another vegetable. Cookie Monster tries to explain to Mario that just because he loves cabbage doesn't mean he is the Veggie Monster. Cookie Monster realizes that the only way he can eat vegetables is if he disguises himself. Cookie Monster eats celery in disguise, but Mario recognizes him and records it for all to see on Me Tube. Cookie Monster is upset and tells Mario how he is feeling frustrated because no one believes him. Cookie Monster sings a song about how no matter how much he loves vegetables, he'll always be who he is - Cookie Monster. Caillou goes to Leo's house to practice his hockey skills and dream about the future.

Miss Martin tells him that a cardboard box slides just as well as a toboggan on snow, so he decorates a box to look just like a bobsled. Thomas chuffs away fast to ask Harold to rescue Bertie. Thomas then collects Dowager and her friends and brings them to meet Bertie at the Shake Shake Bridge. Dowager and her friends jump into the back of Bertie and the flatbed is re-attached to Thomas and they race through the countryside. Spencer The Grand - It is a very foggy day on Sodor. All the engines are asked to stay at Tidmouth Sheds by Sir Topham Hatt. Spencer wants to get back to the Duke and Duchess' Summer House instead. Spencer can't find his way in the fog and arrives at Mavis' Quarry and Whiff's Waste Dump rather than at the Summer House. Just as Spencer thinks he has arrived at the Summer House, he realizes he is back at Tidmouth Sheds. Thomas and the engines are kind to him and he realizes he has been a silly engine. Now it is Spencer's turn to be kind and he goes to find Percy who is still lost in the fog.   In a time when people can carry computers in their pockets and watch TV while walking down the street, this Emmy-nominated documentary explores the twilight - and re-emergence - of one analog craft in a digital age. The Hamilton Wood Type Museum personifies cultural preservation, the potential for rural rebirth and the lineage of American graphic design. At Hamilton, international artisans meet retired craftsmen and together navigate the convergence of modern design and traditional technique.
  However, the museum's days appear numbered.
