  Moyers & Company [#139H] Hispanic America's Turn According to the 2010 census, the number of American Hispanics grew 43% in the last decade to over 50 million. By 2050, Hispanics are projected to number 132 million and represent 30% of the population. As that population evolves, so does their political power. A new report by the Pew Hispanic Center shows that since 2008, America's Latino voting population has grown 22% since 2008. But what are the cultural and political implications of these now well-understood statistics?
  This week, Bill goes beyond the numbers with two of our nation's most popular and influential journalists: Univision's Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas. Univision, a Spanish-language US television network, has the largest audience of Spanish-language television viewers, according to Nielsen ratings.
  Ramos, says The Washington Monthly, is "the broadcaster who will most determine the 2012 elections," while The New York Times calls Salinas "the voice of Hispanic America." In a candid and comprehensive discussion, Ramos and Salinas discuss their responsibilities both as reporters and representatives of their culture, their aggressive journalistic approaches to both President Obama and Governor Romney, and their strong takes on immigration issues that mean so much to a potentially decisive voting bloc in 2012.
  "We are changing the face of America. It's not black and white anymore. We're changing the way we eat. We're changing the way people dance, the way people speak. And we're changing the way people vote." Ramos tells Bill. "No one can make it the White House now without the Hispanic vote - that's completely new."

  Sesame Street [#4270H] Letter R Mystery Detective Alfie Betts is on vacation at Sesame Street and is enjoying a plate of raisin raspberry ravioli when Telly rushes in very upset because his robot and remote are missing. Then Leela enters looking for her rake and roses. When the raisin raspberry ravioli disappears, too, Detective Alfie Betts decides it's time to investigate to find out why things keep going missing. He needs a team of detectives, and Elmo and Abby quickly volunteer. By repeating the items that are missing, they realize that all of them begin with the letter R. Just then, Mumford runs in saying his rabbit is gone too. Luckily, Telly and Mumford saw someone running away each time something disappeared. They describe him and Detective Betts makes a drawing of who they saw. It turns out to be the letter R! So the team gathers up some letters, puts them in a line-up, and matches the drawing to them. They match it to the letter R, who then runs off in a panic. Elmo, Abby, and Detective Betts chase him all around Sesame Street, but he is too quick. They come up with a plan to bring him in for questioning. They set out a plate of rigatoni, which begins with the letter R, and hide, watching to see if the letter R takes it. He eats the rigatoni, but takes off before they can catch him. To slow him down, the detectives decide to put out a heavy rock for him to take. It works, and the letter R admits to taking all the things that start with the letter R. Daddy turns bath time into playtime with a motorboat and a big bottle of bubble bath. And, when the car breaks down Caillou, Rosie and Dad have to pull over. Caillou comforts Rosie who becomes afraid when smoke comes out of the engine. Caillou is overjoyed when the tow truck arrives. All of a sudden Mario Lopez, a reporter for EXTRA Sesame Street, appears and announces on his show that Cookie Monster is now the Veggie Monster! Cookie Monster, panicked, explains that even though he does love to eat healthy carrots, he is not the Veggie Monster. But everyone insists on calling him the Veggie Monster anyway. This makes Cookie Monster really unhappy. He decides to eat a cookie so that nobody will call him Veggie Monster anymore. He asks Big Bird and Snuffy if they have any cookies to eat, but all they have is birdseed, spaghetti, and cabbage. Cookie Monster tastes the cabbage for the first time and thinks it's delicious! Just then, Mario appears and reports that Cookie Monster is eating another vegetable. Cookie Monster tries to explain to Mario that just because he loves cabbage doesn't mean he is the Veggie Monster. Cookie Monster realizes that the only way he can eat vegetables is if he disguises himself. Cookie Monster eats celery in disguise, but Mario recognizes him and records it for all to see on Me Tube. Cookie Monster is upset and tells Mario how he is feeling frustrated because no one believes him. Cookie Monster sings a song about how no matter how much he loves vegetables, he'll always be who he is - Cookie Monster. Rusty takes the Hatt family to the start of their walk and arranges to meet them at the tea rooms later. When the Hatt Family don't turn up at the end of their walk, Rusty is worried. He searches the mountains and when he finds campers at the quarry, fishermen at the coalmine and skiers at the castle, he realizes that the signposts must be wrong! Rusty quickly deduces where the Hatts must be and races off to find them at Hill Farm! They've had a wonderful day, but Rusty has one more job to do. He fetches the workmen to fix the signs. And this time, he doesn't rush them! A shooting star is due to light up the night sky on the Island of Sodor. All the engines are making wishes. When the power on the island fails, Thomas is sent to the power station with some engineers. Thomas puffs across the island but, desperate to see the shooting star, avoids taking any route that will obstruct his view of the night sky. This made his trip longer and longer. Percy gets worried for Thomas and wishes that Thomas returns safely. Thomas, however, has taken such a long route that he's lost! He wishes he could see so he could take the fastest route. Suddenly the shooting star appears and lights up the sky! The light shows Thomas the way and soon the power is fixed! Since her debut in 1989, Shelby Lynne has been difficult to define with her music ranging from country, blues, Southern soul, roots rock, Western swing, jazz and adult contemporary pop. When asked to define herself, Lynne replied simply, "I try not to define anything really, myself especially. I like to let the music do the talking." This simple statement speaks volumes to her craft. Shelby Lynne is a musician at heart, bringing her soulful, down-home sound and style to countless individuals. Born in Virginia but raised in rural Alabama, Lynne struggled at the onset of her career. It wasn't until her 2000 album, I Am Shelby Lynne, that she garnered critical acclaim, propelling her into the international spotlight. Since then, she has continued to dazzle audiences across the country, asserting herself as one of country music's greats. Lynne has even made inroads onto the silver screen, appearing in several films, most notably the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk the Line. At Infinity Hall, Lynne takes the stage with accomplished Nashville guitarist John Jackson. "John Jackson is an excellent guitar-playing friend of mine, " she says, introducing Jackson, who has played with musicians like Bob Dylan and Lucinda Williams. Although the pair performs only with guitars, vocals, and a harmonica,Lynne's music fills the room and captivates the audience. Her set includes three songs from I Am Shelby Lynne, the album that earned her a Grammy in 2001 for Best New Artist.
