  Moyers & Company [#139H] Hispanic America's Turn According to the 2010 census, the number of American Hispanics grew 43% in the last decade to over 50 million. By 2050, Hispanics are projected to number 132 million and represent 30% of the population. As that population evolves, so does their political power. A new report by the Pew Hispanic Center shows that since 2008, America's Latino voting population has grown 22% since 2008. But what are the cultural and political implications of these now well-understood statistics?
  This week, Bill goes beyond the numbers with two of our nation's most popular and influential journalists: Univision's Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas. Univision, a Spanish-language US television network, has the largest audience of Spanish-language television viewers, according to Nielsen ratings.
  Ramos, says The Washington Monthly, is "the broadcaster who will most determine the 2012 elections," while The New York Times calls Salinas "the voice of Hispanic America." In a candid and comprehensive discussion, Ramos and Salinas discuss their responsibilities both as reporters and representatives of their culture, their aggressive journalistic approaches to both President Obama and Governor Romney, and their strong takes on immigration issues that mean so much to a potentially decisive voting bloc in 2012.
  "We are changing the face of America. It's not black and white anymore. We're changing the way we eat. We're changing the way people dance, the way people speak. And we're changing the way people vote." Ramos tells Bill. "No one can make it the White House now without the Hispanic vote - that's completely new."

When they get to Big Bird's nest, and tell him about what they did, they learn that Cookie Monster ate all the cookie crumbs! Big Bird suggests that they make a new trail and shows them how to get back so they will remember: walk past Oscar's can, past the 123 building, turn at the tree, and past Hooper's store. There will be the subway station. Hansel and Gretel make a new path using paper because Cookie Monster won't eat paper, but the paper blows away in the wind! Next, they make the trail using fish because Cookie Monster doesn't like fish and fish don't blow away. They are finally ready for their play date when the Flying Halibut Fish Jugglers use the fish from the path to juggle! Hansel and Gretel are worried they won't know the way again, but Big Bird reminds them of how to get back. They follow Big Bird's directions and successfully reach the subway station! She plays a little guitarrra for them, and then zips off to get more instruments, claves, maracas, guiro, and a bongo, and sings a song about "musica." After they finish singing, Rosita tells Gina that there is also baile which is the Spanish word for dance. Rosita dances the tango, merengue, and conga, and sings a fun song about other kinds of Spanish dances. Next, Rosita tells Gina and Marco all about different comidas which is the Spanish word for food, and chefs deliver a delicious feast for them to enjoy. Rosita says that with musica, baile, and comida there's one thing you have to do- have a fiesta with your amigos! When Thomas sees that Toby's shed at Arlesden End has a leaky roof, he volunteers to organize getting it fixed for his friend. Thomas tells Toby all about his plan but Toby still seems very sad. With the new roof complete, Thomas asks Toby why he still seems so sad. Toby explains that he liked the holey old roof - the birds would fly in through the holes and make their nests, Toby's home was their home too! Thomas has an idea. He arranges for the wood from Toby's old roof to be made into a birdhouse. Now there are more birds at Arlesden End than ever before.
