1:00 amMoyers & Company [#134H] The Resurrection of Ralph Reed * While Romney, Ryan, Christie, and Rubio get the lion's share of attention during the Republican Convention this week, 3 one-time college Republicans who are now the party's real power-brokers - Karl Rove, Ralph Reed, and Grover Norquist - are busy doing what they do best: leveraging their political, religious, and financial resources to back pro-corporate, anti-government objectives at the core of the conservative agenda.
The true surprise at the Tampa convention is Ralph Reed's resurrection. When the former head of the Christian Coalition was discovered to have raked in millions of dollars from the super lobbyist - and eventually convicted felon - Jack Abramoff, Reed wound up in political purgatory. But outraged by the election of Barack Obama, and responding to what he describes as God's call (via Sean Hannity), Reed returned to start the Faith and Freedom Coalition with the aim of toppling Barack Obama from the White House. To succeed, Reed needs to win the allegiance of many of the trusting Christian followers he had duped and double-crossed while working with Abramoff. Can he pull it off? That's the story this week.
*Later on the show, Bill also talks with Mike Lofgren, a long-time Republican who says the rise of politicized religious fundamentalism transformed his party and created a de facto religious test for the presidency. Lofgren tells the story in his book The Party is Over: How Republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless, and the Middle Class Got Shafted. duration 56:46 STEREO TVG -
2:00 amNature [#2102H] Kalahari: The Great Thirstland For years, the Kalahari Desert can appear to be one of the most barren wastelands on earth. But its swirling hot sands hold unseen treasure - a swarming superabundance of life, brought forth by a brief season of sudden, unpredictable storms. Butterflies, termites and locusts burst forth in staggering numbers. Millions of quelea birds swirl in the sky like smoke. Most impressive is the giant bullfrog - the size of a dinner plate with a voice to match, this amphibian waits out the dry years entombed deep underground. duration 56:46 SRND51 TVPG

6:00 amZoboomafoo [#120] Animal Daycare Martin and Chris are exhausted after an around-the-world hike, but there's no time to sleep because Animal Junction's full of babies: lynx and bobcat kittens, a baby ring tail lemur. Needless to say, Zoboo, Martin and Chris have their hands full. Babies can be pretty helpless and need lots of care. Babies are also pretty vocal when they are in need of something, especially these creature babies. Jackie and the Animal Helpers are returning from blueberry picking when they discover a baby bird that's fallen out of his nest. The nest is too high for them to reach, so they put the bird into a blueberry basket and set the basket into the crotch of the tree. That way the bird's mom will find his new nest and feed him. duration 28:46 STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)

7:00 amSesame Street [#4281H] Furry Potter It seems that everyone on Sesame Street is excitedly reading the new Furry Potter book. Telly has it too, and can't wait to find Gordon so Gordon can read it to him. He finds Gordon grading papers outside Hooper's Store, and Telly anxiously asks him to read him the book now. Gordon agrees, but cannot find his glasses. Gordon suggests to Telly that he tries to read the book himself, but Telly says it's too long. Instead he goes to get help, and brings back the three little kittens from the nursery rhyme, since they know all about losing stuff. They find their mittens in Gordon's briefcase, but Gordon's glasses are still nowhere to be found. Gordon again suggests to Telly that he should try to read by himself, but Telly takes one look at the book and says it's too hard. Instead he brings back Little Bo Peep to help, since she is also always losing things. One of her sheep shows up with glasses and gives them to Gordon, but they are sunglasses. Again, Gordon tells Telly to give the book a try, and again, Telly has a better idea and runs off to get Schnozola, the glass-sniffing dog. But that's doesn't work either. Telly finally admits that he doesn't want to read the book by himself because it means not reading it together with Gordon. Gordon tells him they can still do that - by Telly reading the book to him, taking one word at a time. Just as they begin, Chris finds Gordon's glasses, but Telly tells Gordon that he kind of likes reading to him, so they keep doing just that. duration 58:46 STEREO TVY (Secondary audio: DVI)
