This is Us [#305] A special presentation featuring 3 profiles of World War II vets.
Leading the way is former US Army Force Captain Les Williams. At the height of WWII, a group of highly motivated African American pilots from the original 99th Fighter group flew some of the most challenging and daunting missions of the European Theater. They were known as the Tuskegee Airmen, and their story is more than just about individual heroism but rather about men, who were able to prevail over discrimination and American prejudice and the Nazi war machine. Les Williams was one of those young pilots that went through the training in Tuskegee, Alabama.
Pilot Barbara London served on the home front as one of the original WASPs. Among the very first group of women to fly military aircraft, London ferried everything from fighters to bombers coast to coast as the allies mounted their supreme effort to win the war.
Finally, we profile Sgt. Roy Diaz a survivor of the infamous Bataan Death March and a local Salinas farmer that somehow endured more than 3 years as a POW in the most brutal conditions imaginable. If you would like to meet some real heroes, be sure to watch this episode.

With Les Falconer III on drums, Vail Johnson on bass, Michael Hicks on keyboards, Kevin So on keyboards and guitar and Jeff Paris on guitar, mandolin and harmonica, the band's full sound and Mo's incomparable blues style engulf the elated audience. Keb' Mo' - formerly known as Kevin Moore - was born in South Los Angeles to parents from the Deep South. Often described as a living link to the seminal Delta blues of the past, he describes his style as a combination of the music he grew up listening to: blues, country, soul and folk. "I'm kind of a hybrid version of all those things thrown together," he says. His multi-faceted career includes portraying one of his blues influences, Robert Johnson, in the 1998 documentary Can't You Hear the Wind Howl? Mo' and his band open the show at Infinity Hall with "Inside Outside, " a song from his most recent album, Reflection. Mo' describes the album as the "culmination of all of my influences throughout my career." He also treats the crowd to his slow groove single "The Whole Enchilada," which he describes as a song that "reminds us men that when you are out there courting and falling in love that there's just a few things to keep in mind." Television fans will recognize his tune "I See Love," the theme song from the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly. Plus, the band doesn't disappoint with "Life is Beautiful" from his 2006 release Suitcase, and several other songs from his Grammy award-winning albums. This program captures the energy of the crowd during Mo's rousing performance. The band closes the show on a high note with the inspirational "A Better Man," a song created for the charity organization "Playing for Change" which inspires peace in the world through music. duration 57:14   STEREO TVPG
